Can Google Ads Really Grow Your Business? – An Honest Review
What is Google Ads, and What Does it Do?
Almost everyone has heard of Google Ads in one way or the other. But just in case it’s your first time:
Google Ads is a pay-per-click advertising platform that allows individuals and businesses to display their ads on the internet. You only have to pay only when a visitor clicks your ad.
There’s more to Google Ads than the simple explanation I just gave. But for now, that definition should suffice. Now let’s talk about what Google Ads can do and what it can’t.
What Google Ads Can Do…and What it Cannot
Just so to be clear, Google Ads is not a lifeboat or a magic potion for an already failing business. It will boost lead generation and increase sales, but not in the way most people think.
Google Ads can’t:
- Guarantee sales or leads.
- Steal your competitors’ customers.
- Get your site to rank higher organically.
- Put your ads on your competitors’ websites.
- Guarantee the extent to which the sales or leads you get will be profitable.
Google Ads can:
- Show your business to people searching for a related product or service.
- Help you show up for people searching for your competitors.
- Get you in front of potential clients via audience and persona targeting.
- Promote your physical store to those in close vicinity to it.
- And lots more.
Now you know what Google Ads can do. Now let’s see if it’s really worth your time and ad budget.
Is Google Ads worth it? The Pros & Cons
Pros of Google Ads for Businesses
- Instant results.
- You can test and experiment with what works and what doesn’t.
- Unparalleled ability to measure results in real time.
- The ad budget is flexible. It’s pay-per-click, remember?
- Google Ads has the potential to maximize your ROI, often more than 10x the initial investment.
- You can target your audience based on demographics (Age, gender, occupation, income, etc).
👉 Google Ads mostly outperform social media ads. Come to think of it, everyone and their uncle uses social media. On the other hand, most Google users are actively looking to solve a problem.
👉 Google Ads gives you the ability to also show your ads to people who have already visited your website but who haven’t yet taken action. This is known as remarketing.
The Downside of Google Ads for Businesses
- Google Ads will require a big amount of your time.
- It can be hard if you don’t have any prior PPC training.
👉 Google Ads is not a lone wolf. It can’t do it alone.
Take a moment and think. Google Ads only shows your potential customers the doorstep of your website/business. From there forward, it’s entirely up to you to convince them to make a purchase.
👉 High Cost-Per-Click
The average cost can be cheap to highly expensive, depending on your business industry.
If your business is related to insurance, banking & finance, Law, Gas/Electricity, etc, you can expect the highest possible cost-per-click.
In that case, it will be difficult to earn meaningful profit off of your clicks if you don’t have a large company’s marketing budget.
To be Honest… A Moment of Truth
There’s something that many Google Ad experts and advertising agencies don’t usually tell potential clients. But I will tell you now.
To be honest, Google Ads is not suitable for all businesses. There are 2 things to consider.
👉 How much profit does your business earn on each sale?
If your business earns just enough profit to keep it running, then it’s best to stick with SEO until it can stand on its feet.
If it earns normal or high profit per sale, Google Ads is definitely suitable.
👉 How many times does a customer comes back to make a purchase?
If customers buy from you multiple times in a year, then Google Ads will definitely work for you. In fact, it may be the breakthrough you’ve been praying for.
If most of your customers only come back once a year, or if they don’t usually come back at all, then Google Ads may not be the best solution at the moment. (Unless you earn high profits off each sale).
There are exceptions to this though. For example, if you sell industrial/home inverters, expensive real estate, luxurious vehicles, etc, there are chances that a customer won’t come back to make a purchase (at least, not in 2 years).
In that case, Google Ads will still work for your business.
